Joy DeKok
Profile
Do you believe? Christian Author and Speaker Joy DeKok does. She
tenderly captivates women readers & audiences with stories of humor and candid
Truth, firmly grounded in the belief that we have been given everything we need
to be − far more than we could ever imagine for ourselves. God created us. And
we are very good in His eyes. Genesis 1:31 "God saw all that he had made, and it
was very good."
Armed with the Word of God, Joy is able to use enchanting illustrations to
draw parallels between God's calling for us and the situation that we may find
ourselves in. She believes that He uses every aspect of our lives to transform
us into women who use their unique talents, gifts, and experiences to impact
their world. This Christian Author & Speaker believes God meant it when He said
in Romans 8:37 (Amplified), "Yet amid all these things we are more than
conquerors and gain a surpassing victory through Him Who loved us."
Joy believes each woman is a unique combination of talents, wisdom, gifts,
dreams, strengths, and experience. She is able to see God-potential in the women
she meets and those she knows and loves. Joy longs for them to realize the
life-changing truth she now believes: they can set aside striving for
self-confidence and replace it with God-confidence. From these convictions, was
born.
Joy’s writing and speaking challenge the indifference that can creep into the
duty-filled lives of women. She asks readers and listeners to take a new look at
their beliefs, life issues, and personal value. It is her desire to ignite a
passion in women to get past the “be all you can be” mentality of society when
she urges them to draw upon God’s power to “be all He created them to be.”
As a writer, Joy spends time observing the people around her. She also
listens to the voices of the women in her life. Because of what she’s learned,
Joy is devoted to energizing women to reach beyond the daily-ness of life and
helping them build a life where dreams become goals and goals are worked into
dreams come true.
Joy is certain the first step in all of this is to stop striving for the
approval of others and celebrate God’s acceptance of each woman – right where
she is regardless of…
- the choices we’ve made …
- the regrets we carry …
- the secrets we hide …
- the sin that lingers …
- the fear of failing – again …
- the years we’ve wasted …
- the lies we’ve believed …
- the talents we’ve buried …
- the gifts we’ve ignored …
... grants Joy the opportunity for her to pass on the tools and lessons she
is learning as she follows God’s leading in her life. She accomplishes this
through the books, Bible studies (with teaching DVDs), and newsletters she
writes as well as through speaking at women’s events and to writer’s groups.
Keynote topics
- What I Want to be When I Grow Up!
Joy believes you can be
what you wanted to be when you were a child – when you are grown up. Using
examples of real women, she inspires women to pursue their dreams.
- Barren But Not Broken
Being a childless woman can be heart
breaking…but it doesn’t mean we are broken, incomplete or less. We are
significant in the plan of life. I am woman…hear me rejoice!
- Dream Catchers
Journals can be the place where we record our
lives…for our own healing or the enjoyment and education of a future
generation. They can also be the place we put our dreams before, during, and
after we live them!
- When You Wish Upon A Star…
Dreams don’t come true when you
wish upon a star…they get lived. Joy believes they are within reach…if we
are willing to risk raised eyebrows, distain, and the discomfort of others
when be embark in this journey of discovery. Joy does more than encouraging
women to dream…she urges them to live them!
- Buried Treasure
As a writer, Joy has chosen a road once less
traveled…self-publication. She is passionate in her belief that file
drawers, memory boxes, closets, and journals full of “unaccepted”
manuscripts, paintings, music, and other creative works of art are a waste
of a life. It’s not about being a best seller, performing before thousands
of fans, or seeing our work displayed in art galleries (although all of
these things can happen!). It’s about doing what we do love…and touching at
least one life in the process. Joy delights in helping women uncover their
buried treasure and seeing the flame of passion ignited in their souls.
- Keep It Simple Sister!
What if you could simplify your life
and find time to write…draw…paint…sculpt, take voice lessons, journal, read,
or take a nap? How would you impact your children, your grandchildren, your
nieces, nephews, students, and friends if they saw you living in a way that
includes you living your dreams instead of just dreaming them? This is more
than a time management class. Joy asks you to consider your choices, your
options, and take action.
- Dream On!
Daydreaming is just for bored kids right? For Joy,
time to daydream counts as writing. For an artist friend of hers daydreaming
is the means she uses to “see” a painting – layer by layer before she picks
up a brush. For a songwriter she knows, it’s the time the words start to
join the music before she sits down at the piano. For a homemaker she knows,
this time is where beautiful table settings and centerpieces are born. For a
mom she knows, this is where creative activities for her children blossom
and constructive disciplines are developed. So come on Sisters…dream on!
- Casting Stones
Think this ancient form of capital punishment
is a thing of the past? Well, what about the stones you cast at your
reflection when you looked in the mirror or stepped on the scale this
morning? Or the stones cast at you by an unkind person in your past…or was
it just yesterday? What stones did you cast at your husband, children,
mother, or the driver you passed today who offended you by driving the speed
limit when you were in a hurry? Are you carrying wounds from pebbles and
boulders…or have you cast a few yourself? With the tenderness born of
self-inflicted wounds and injuries caused by others, Joy gives her listeners
hope for real healing because sticks and stones can break our bones…and
words DO hurt us!
- He is Near
What does it mean to be close to God? To understand
His Word? To pray believing? Can anything touch you without going through
Him first? Where in the world is He? Joy believes with all her heart…He is
as close as the breeze on your skin and ache in your heart! His Word says
so. Joy has experienced Him. Come and hear how you too can know…He is near!
- Diary of a Teen Queen
Afraid to get involved? Unsure of what
it might cost you? So was Queen Esther. Her story is an adventure from
hesitance to historic courage and change! Her choices impacted two
kingdoms…and all those to come. Whose life will be impacted for eternity
when you decide to say YES to God?
- Pride & Joy
A father waits and here you come. You are spent,
weary, wounded, and full of shame. You deserve disdain and dishonor.
Yet…here he comes the waiting Father…with his arms open wide in welcome –
for you! Joy makes the journey’s of these two brothers come to life as she
shares her personal experiences as both prodigal and faithful child…and the
Father who loved her either way.
- Three Wise Gentiles
While Jerusalem waited for Messiah three
gentiles from the East watched for Him. They looked for the sign in the sky
promised by God. They watched for years and when they saw it – were ready!
They hurried…to worship Him! This delightful part of the Christmas story is
fun all year long. Joy ties in the wonder of watching for Him now…the
returning and triumphant King. Will you be among the wise this time?
- Sister-Chicks (A great retreat topic.)
The woman at the
well…the woman caught in adultery…the woman who touched the hem of the
Lord’s robe…Mary of Magdela (and her mother!). Who are these women? Sinners.
Suffers. Believers. They are women who touched the heart of God so deeply He
recorded their testimonies. Joy takes you on a journey of discovery into
their lives and helps you to discover your special connection to them…these
sister-chicks!
- What’s In Your Wagon?
Joy used to dress up her baby dolls and
take them for rides in her little red
wagon. At one time or another she’s pretty sure her most precious treasures got
a ride – including her little brother! If you had a wagon today what would you be hauling? Hurt? Bitterness?
Disappointment? Sorrow? Guilt? Shame? Or would you – could you risk tucking in
your dreams, joys, hopes and faith? Or would it sit empty as if you had neither
a care or joy in the world?
